Picture hanging wires and hooks

The right hanging wire depends on the weight of your picture, the hanging system you have chosen and the desired appearance. For lightweight wall decorations, a thin 1 mm hanging wire is often sufficient, while a 2 mm wire is suitable for heavier pictures and frames. Then choose a picture hook that is suitable for both the thickness of the wire and the weight of the artwork. Always also take the maximum load capacity of the rail into account.

Perlon is a transparent plastic hanging wire that is barely visible against the wall. Artiteq offers perlon hanging wires in 1 mm and 2 mm thicknesses and in various lengths from 150 to 300 cm. You can also choose between versions with a Slider or a Twister. The difference lies in the way the hanging wire is inserted into the rail.

Steel wire has a more visible and robust appearance. It is also available in 1 mm and 2 mm thicknesses and in various lengths from 150 to 300 cm. The most suitable wire mainly depends on the desired appearance, the hanging system and the required load capacity.

The hanging wire must always be combined with a suitable hook.

A 1 mm hanging wire is thinner and therefore particularly discreet. The Twister 1 mm has a maximum load capacity of up to 10 kg, depending on the selected wire and hook. A 2 mm Twister can support up to 20 kg and is therefore more suitable for heavier pictures and wall decorations.

Always use a hook that is suitable for the selected wire thickness.

Choose a wire that is long enough to reach from the hanging rail to the desired height of the picture. Allow some extra length so that you can easily move the picture higher or lower later. Available lengths vary depending on the type of hanging wire. Twister hanging wires, for example, are available in lengths from 100 to 500 cm, while the Economy Slider is available from 100 to 300 cm.

Perlon hanging wires can be rolled up behind the picture or cut to the required length if necessary. Cutting steel wire yourself is not recommended, although any excess wire can of course be rolled up behind the picture.

A picture hangs more securely and stably when two hanging wires with hooks are used. For larger, wider or heavier artworks in particular, we recommend using two suspension points. This distributes the weight more evenly, makes it easier to hang the picture straight and reduces the risk of the artwork tilting forwards.

For smaller and lightweight frames, one hanging wire may be sufficient, provided that the wire, hook and rail are suitable for the weight.

The right hook is determined by the thickness of the hanging wire and the weight of the picture. For 1 mm hanging wires, use the specially designed Micro Grip 1 mm.

Standard 2 mm perlon and steel wires can be combined with various Artiteq picture hooks. Choose the hook based on the required load capacity for the item you want to hang.

The maximum load capacity is determined by the combination of rail, hanging wire and hook. A hook should therefore never be loaded beyond the maximum capacity of the wire or rail with which it is combined.

For standard Twister 2 mm wires, for example, combinations are available with a Mini Hook for up to 4 kg, an Auto Grip for up to 15 kg and a Micro Grip for up to 20 kg. Always choose a combination with more than sufficient load capacity for the weight of the picture.
