5 tips for hanging frames straight
Read the 5 tips for preventing frames from tilting
Hanging and arranging your favorite frames, paintings, and artworks on the wall can be quite challenging. With an Artiteq picture hanging system, it is possible to hang multiple frames, paintings, and other artworks as a gallery wall. Especially with a gallery wall, it is fun to play with the size of the frames and the types of wall decorations together. When using frames that vary in size, thickness, and weight, it may happen that certain frames start to tilt. How do you prevent frames from tilting? As hanging specialists, we have 5 tips to prevent frames from tilting without affecting your chosen frames or layout. Read the 5 tips below.

Tip 1. Know why a frame tilts
Hanging wire affects the tilting of the frame. When the frame is thick, small, or the weight is mainly at the front, the frame can tilt forward. If you use a long piece of hanging wire where the frame also hangs lower, it can also tilt forward.

Tip 2. Use two hanging wires
The weight of the frame or other wall decoration is decisive for the choice of hook and wire in combination with the maximum load-bearing weight per meter of our picture hanging systems. A frame always hangs more stably when using 2 hanging wires and 2 hanging hooks. When hanging multiple frames on a hanging wire underneath each other, we advise using two hanging wires. This reduces the tilting of the top frame. Furthermore, it has the advantage that the maximum weight of the frame is then twice as much.

Tip 3. Remove excess hanging wire
The hanging wires made of nylon and steel wire are available in 1 mm or 2 mm thickness and in lengths ranging from 100 cm to 500 cm. Depending on which length of hanging wire is chosen, there is a good chance that there will be excess hanging wire left when the frames are hung. You can cut off the excess wire or roll it up and possibly stick it to the back of the frame. When sticking to the back of the frame, use some tape or adhesive tape. We especially recommend cutting off the excess wire for lightweight frames because the stiffness of the wire can push the frame forward. Using 1 mm hanging wires instead of 2 mm can also help because they are much less stiff.

Tip 4. Move the hanging point behind the frame
The position of the hanging point behind the frame affects whether a frame will tilt. Often, a frame will tilt if the hanging point behind the frame is mounted too low. By placing it higher, you can prevent the frame from tilting. The hanging wire will then be as close as possible to the frame. If the hanging point is placed on the edge of the frame, it can cause the frame to tilt. Move it as far forward as possible on the frame.

Tip 5. Use spacers behind the frame
Spacers are attached to the back of the frame. Apply these to the top and bottom of the frame to bring the frame slightly forward and avoid tilting. Artiteq offers self-adhesive transparent or foam spacers. The foam spacer is slightly thicker. Both spacers are made of soft material, preventing damage to the walls.
