Sustainable wall management in luxury care hotels

For the renovation of various monumental buildings on estates in Zeist and Oirschot, interior architecture firm DMD Amsterdam chose the picture hanging system from Artiteq. We talk to founder Dick Mulders.

Timeless interiors

Interior architect Dick Mulders lived abroad for many years. Dick: “I lived in London, Shanghai, and Sydney, among other places. Three years ago, I returned to the Netherlands and founded DMD Amsterdam. You can see international influences in all our designs.”

“We create timeless interiors with courage. High-quality materials form the basis of my designs. Additionally, every interior has a signature piece. Something that is specially designed for the space. This could be a large staircase or chandelier, for example. But also a unique kitchen or a wall with special wallpaper.”

Housing projects for seniors

Housing Projects for Seniors

DMD Amsterdam provided the interior design for two large housing projects for seniors. “At Estate Groot Bijsterveld in Oirschot, the former monastery and coach house have been completely renovated. The monastery now houses 25 high-end apartments, specifically for seniors. The coach house accommodates 35 luxury care hotel rooms for people who need to rehabilitate elsewhere after being discharged from the hospital.”

Social Sustainability

The second project is located in Zeist at Estate Wulperhorst. Here, the coach house and former manor house have been renovated into 25 luxury apartments and a care hotel with about 20 rooms. Dick: “These renovations are a form of social sustainability. The buildings on these public estates are no longer used as residences, monasteries, or coach houses. They have been restored, given a new purpose, and returned to society.”

Aesthetic preservation of the walls

For both projects, Dick Mulders chose the Artiteq picture hanging system. “We found it important that residents can easily hang their own art without damaging the walls. Moreover, the artwork is changed relatively often. Some people stay in the hotel rooms or apartments for a month, while others stay for several years. New residents bring their own art to hang on the walls.

We also deal with monumental buildings, often with high ceilings. Thanks to the Click Rail, there is no need for constant drilling, allowing us to ensure the sustainable and aesthetic preservation of these walls. The beauty of Artiteq's rails is that they are minimal and almost invisible.”

Smart Pocket Rail

The Click Rail is mounted flush with the ceiling and hangs in hotel rooms, apartments, and common areas. The Click Rail has a maximum load capacity of 30 kilograms per meter. A total of more than 300 meters of rails have been used for both projects. Dick: “It is also important to be able to hang paintings and photos beautifully and easily change them in the common areas of these living centers.”

Finally, at the entrances of all homes, the Artiteq Smart Pocket Rail has been installed. This is a small piece of rail mounted on the wall with a plexiglass display. This allows for information about the current residents to be presented in a stylish manner.

Personal Service

The collaboration with Artiteq has been very satisfactory for Dick Mulders: “They are very flexible, quick, and there is always stock available. I find that very pleasant. They have even brought materials themselves in an emergency situation. I appreciate that personal service.” The Click Rail and the Smart Pocket Rail also work to satisfaction. “Changing paintings and information about residents is easy, the system works as it should. I would definitely recommend it for future projects.”
