Let me introduce myself: Angelique Plakmeijer is 38 years old and lives with her husband Sander and their children Kiki-Roos (6) and Kasper (2) in a cozy house in Helmond. Half of the week, she works as a buyer at a stainless steel wholesale company. In addition, Angelique spends quite a few hours on her Instagram account and blog where she mainly shares interior inspiration.

Angelique: “I have always liked interiors; it is truly my passion. As a teenager, when I still lived with my parents, I would buy nice accessories at Xenos to style my room. When I was 19, I moved out and into my first own home: a small ground floor apartment. I thought that was amazing. I could finally go all out with furnishing and decorating.”

A Hit on Instagram

Creating an Instagram account was a logical step for Angelique eight years ago: “Instagram was just starting to rise, and I immediately found it a nice app, especially because of all the interior inspiration I found there. Not long after, I started taking and sharing photos of my house.”

When her relationship ended and she had to move out, Angelique decided to give one wall in her new apartment a bright color: “I wanted a color that would make me happy every time I saw it. So I painted a wall in my living room bright yellow. That was an instant hit on Instagram. It even led to me being featured in a magazine with a beautiful home tour.”

Don't be afraid of color

Meanwhile, Angelique lives with her family in a row house in Helmond. What does she want to show her 35,000+ followers on Instagram? “Actually, mainly that you can do a lot with your interior, even if you don't live large. We don't have a big house at all. I hope to convince people that they don't need to be afraid to use color and to make special combinations, even if they live small.”

Mix & match

Angelique loves to mix prints, colors, and patterns: “My style is colorful. The base is neutral, we have quite a few white walls and also a light kitchen. But I add a lot of color. For example, we have a wall with colorful wallpaper in every room in the house. It's not only cozy, but with wallpaper, you really make a statement. Furthermore, I like to combine modern furniture with unique items from thrift stores.”

As an interior fan, Angelique naturally loves change: “Every month, something changes in the house. For example, I move a cabinet from the left next to the sofa to the right. And the wall decoration moves along with it.” The desire to change often led Angelique to install the Artiteq Click Rail system. “My husband didn’t want to have to drill every time I wanted to change something. And now I can hang up anything I want, wherever I want. We started with one long wall in the living room, but now there are also rails in the bedrooms and in the kitchen.” The installation of the Click Rails was done by her husband Sander. “I say this with much love, but my husband is not the best handyman in the world. He’s not that handy, haha. And I didn’t hear him curse and swear during the installation, so he really didn’t find it difficult. And I tell you: if he can do it, anyone can!”

Plants & woven wall hangings on the wall

Of course, Angelique uses the rails to hang picture and photo frames, but that is certainly not the only thing that adorns her walls. “I love making a collage with many different frames together. But I also like to hang little pots with plants on the wall. Recently, we put herb plants in the Artiteq Botanic hanging flower pots and hung them in the kitchen, it looked so cozy. Furthermore, I weave wall hangings, which we hang on the wall with the handy twister hooks. And at Christmas, there are homemade paper stars hanging on the walls.”

You can really hang anything

According to Angelique, changing wall decorations is very simple and quick. “I have a container with accessories for the rails both upstairs and downstairs, so I always have everything I need at hand. And then it goes very quickly. For example, I recently framed a homemade diamond painting. I took a perlon thread and a hook, slid my chair in front of the wall, clicked the thread into the rails, and a few minutes later the frame was in place. It’s so simple, the only thing you need to think about is which accessory you are going to use.”

Angelique is very happy with the Click Rails in her home: “It’s so nice, you can really hang anything. There is a solution for every type of wall decoration!
